An Honest Solution To Your Weight Loss Troubles

Author : D Thomas Webb

Losing weight is never easy, and any diet or exercise program that you may try will do you no good if you expect them to do it for you. There is only one true way to effectively lose weight, and you must do that yourself. Absent your efforts, anything else you may try is doomed to failure.

Perhaps, like me, you're forgetting the simple things. I know that when I first began to seriously try to lose weight, I got so caught up in looking for the "fast" or "easy" way that I forgot about the numbers, and the numbers are the only thing that really matters.

With that in mind, allow me to offer this short refresher.

People in the medical community will tell you that, to lose one pound of body weight, you must burn about 3500 calories. While true, this is only half of the weight loss equation. It would be much more precise to say that, to lose one pound of weight, you must burn 3500 more calories than you consume.

In practical terms, if your goal is to lose 5 pounds per month, then, during that month, you must burn 17,500 more calories than you consume. Short of some type of medical intervention (liposuction, etc.), there's just no other way. And, when you think about it, every diet, weight loss pill, or exercise program that you've ever tried was designed to help you to either consume fewer calories, or burn more.

For me, I found that all of the diets and pills weren't necessary. I developed a special program that I call the "push away diet". It only has 2 steps, and, if you practice them for a while, it actually becomes a habit.

For one thing, when you have a meal, don't assume that you have to live on leaves and twigs. Eating foods that you really don't like will only serve to make you frustrated, and frustration is the mortal enemy of effective weight loss.

Instead, just take smaller portions of the foods that you already enjoy. You'll need to be somewhat reasonable in your selections, of course, but I have to think that you know the difference between "sort of" and "really" bad foods.

Then, after you've finished with your (smaller) first helping, "push away" from the table. Stating put will only place temptation an arm's length away, so get away! Go watch TV or, better yet, take a walk. Anything to get away from the food that will surely find it's way inside of you if you stay.

The fact is, if you'll combine my push away diet with just a moderate amount of increased physical activity, you will lose weight.
