Carpet Cleaning: The Inexpensive Solution

Author : Jo Harris

A house, in many ways, seems to be incomplete without a carpet. However, maintaining and cleaning carpets is just another story. Especially if you have kids, pets or if your house receives lots of visitors, cleaning carpets every week or even more often becomes necessary. There are numerous carpet cleaners available in market. The ones which actually work well are often expensive and thus many of us often simply vacuum the carpet only, instead of cleaning it with a solution. Obviously, vacuuming is necessary and crucial for the overall cleanliness and hygiene but sometimes it’s not enough, even from only an aesthetic point of view. Well, here is a simple way which can help you to clean your carpet efficiently and without buying costly cleaning products.

Step 1
Vacuum the carpet thoroughly. This means simply removing the loose dirt and dust off the carpet.

Step 2
Buy any cheap oxygen cleaner. Branded or unbranded – it doesn’t matter. Pick anything that suits your budget.

Step 3
Take a spray bottle. Fill it with hot water. Dissolve about ½-1 scoop of oxygen cleaner in it.

Step 4
Spray this mixture over stains and the areas of heavy traffic of the carpet. Allow it to soak for 5-10 minutes.

Step 5
Now prepare a bucket full of water to shampoo the carpet. Dissolve 1-2 scoops of oxygen cleaner per galloon of water. Shampoo the whole rug gently and thoroughly. Let the shampoo sit in for 5-10 minutes, so that it has enough time to attack the stains and dirt.

Step 6
Now start removing water. Use as much water as possible. Try taking all soapy water out of the carpet.

Step 7
Vacuum the carpet again once it is completely dry.

Your inexpensive carpet cleaning process is all complete. However there is a thing to be noted here. It’s a good idea to get your carpet cleaned by professionals every once in a while, like every six months. You should definitely do this if you have a large house. The reason being, carpet-cleaning services have skilled professionals and equipments and they will be able to clean your carpet with efficiency and care.
