National Labor College – An Apex Institute For Labor Education

Established in 1974, one of the leading universities of United States of America , National Labor College is situated in Silver Spring , Maryland . The college (also popular as NLC) offers bachelor degrees and masters programs in labor studies, organization development, union leadership and administration, and instructional technology.
Degrees and Programs
The masters programs available for the bachelors are labor history, labor studies, labor safety and health, labor education, union leadership and administration and political economy of labor. In addition, the college has many undergraduate programs equivalent to an Associate Degree; sponsored educational programs by union groups or individual unions; apprenticeship programs and a masters degree program affiliated to the University of Baltimore and American University .
Apart from the numerous bachelor degree programs and masters programs; the institute also provides various kinds of financial aids to the needy students, including the deferred billing and payment plans, the AETNA Healthcare Scholarships and the Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship. There are also numerous HAZMAT and associated training programs run by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Other Bodies
George Meany Memorial Archives founded by AFL-CIO in 1987 is the centre of official papers and records, federation and union publications and several departmental records of AFL-CIO. An AFL-CIO library also came up in the archives building in 1993.
NLC Workers Memorial is coming up as a memorial of late Mary Harris "Mother" Jones. She died in 1930 with her last words: "Pray for the dead, but fight like hell for the living." The college wants to pass this message to its students, for the years to come, and; hence came the idea of this memorial, to be erected in near future.
A book centre which offers books, clothing, references and souvenirs is also there. The college also has a tie-up with MBS Direct for an online book store to purchase books and sell the old books as well, totally online.
