How To Learn Self Hypnosis

Author : Jake Rhodes

Just like the name implies self hypnosis is a kind of hypnosis where the person hypnotizes their self. At this point most individuals know about the many positive benefits that hypnosis brings and self hypnosis offers all those same pluses but with the addition advantage of allowing the person complete control of the session.

As is the case with hypnosis, self hypnosis can be used to aid someone trying to lose weight weight, quit smoking, relax more or achieve almost any goal a person desires.

In this article though we will be looking at using self hypnosis for relaxation. Using the nine points I will provide you can learn self hypnosis and experience how it feels in your own home. Prior to starting though I would like to say that hypnosis isn’t the mystical practice some believe it to be. When you are hypnotized you will still be able to hear anything going on around you and most people remember everything that goes on during a hypnosis session. Instead expect to feel loose and relaxed.

The self hypnosis session begins now.

1. Go to a peaceful room where you can either sit on a comfortable chair or lie down on a bed or couch. Keep your body as straight as possible to allow for proper circulation. Try to make sure that you won’t be disturbed for around thirty minutes.

2. Close your eyes and count down as you take ten slow, deep breaths. Breathe in using your nose and breathe out through slightly open lips.

3. Allow yourself to feel any stress in your body. Beginning with the tips of your toes and gradually travelling up to the crown of your head imagine each part of your body becoming less heavy until it feels as light as a feather. Move from your feet up to your ankles, then your calves and shins, knees and so on.

If you feel a warmth of a tingling sensation in the part of your body you are focusing on, this is quite normal.

4. Now your body will feel loose and limp. Take ten more slow, deep breaths as you did previously and think about just how loose and relaxed your body feels.

5. Begin to imagine yourself (either first or third person is fine, whatever comes naturally) lying on a big, comfortable cloud. There is nothing else around you. Enjoy how content and relaxed you are on this fluffy cloud as it starts to descend gradually downwards. Following a minute or so of descending down the cloud gently halts and the emptiness around you begins to change into your ideal relaxation location. It might be the beach, the very peak of a mountain or anywhere else you can imagine.

6. Get yourself off the cloud and walk into this magnificently relaxing location you have created. Feel everything there is to experience about that place. Feel the earth beneath your feet, the gentle wind in the air and the sun on your face.

7. While you are taking pleasure from this relaxing place affirm to yourself just how great you feel. Reiterate positive affirmations like “I am feeling calm and relaxed”. You could also add other affirmations here to help accomplish other goals you wish to achieve. For instance if you want to quit smoking you can use the affirmation “I am a non smoker”.

8. When you are ready to end your session go back to your cloud and let it take you back to your room.

9. Count backwards from ten to one. As you do so start to extend your muscles carefully until you get to one where you can slowly open your eyes.

You have now experienced self hypnosis. As with most skills, with self hypnosis, practice makes perfect so keeping doing this relaxation technique a few times. Once you’ve perfected it you could either look for more self hypnosis scripts on the web or possibly even buy a course online. If you do choose to purchase a self hypnosis course please look into the people behind the programmed in detail. Be certain that they are a qualified hypnotist and have experience recording audio.
