How To Choose A Yangtze River Cruise

Author : Sophia Lin

The Yangtze river is the longest river not only in China but also in all of Asia. It is also the third longest river in the world after the Nile and Amazon. However, do not let this fact deter you from exploring it. This river is one of the most beautiful and amazing to be on. When you travel to China, consider taking a Yangtze River Cruise.

When most people think of cruises, they think of simply getting on a ship and enjoy the pool, the food , the casino. However, you will have more chance to meet local people, to taste the local cuisine and experience real China by taking a Yangtze River cruise. A popular Yangtze River cruise tour will look like the following.

First, you will arrive in Beijing, where you will stroll along the ancient promenades of one of the world's great wonders - the great wall of China. You will also tour the massive Tianmen Square, the Forbidden City and other more attractions. Then you will fly to either Chongqing or Wuhan or Yichang to board your cruise ship (depends on whether you are booked on a downstream cruise or upstream cruise. There is not much difference as to which is better. You will see the similar sights and have the same experience regardless you travel upstream or downstream).

The cruising is normally 4-5 days. One of the amazing sites that you will sail past is the Three Gorges Dam. This is one of the largest dams in the world. In addition to passing the dam, you will also take excursions to visit attractions along the river. The excursion to the smaller gorges is most popular. The smaller three gorges is a very beautiful and lush area along the Yangtze River and has a large amount of wildlife and fauna. This would be a great place to take pictures to show your friends and family the serene beauty of the area.

After disembark the cruuise ship, you will fly to Shanghai, China's largest cosmopolitan city; where you will experience even more spetacular Chinese culture. If you travel between May and October, you will have chance to visit the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Dress code is casual on the cruise ship. Do wear comfortable shoes as you will do some walking. The best time to visit China is March, April, May, September and October.

Sometimes, taking a Yangtze River cruise in China is compared to seeing the Grand Canyon. This is one of the longest rivers in the world, and has so much unique beauty and awe to offer up. You will be fascinated by the different cultures that are influenced by the river, the friendly people live along the river and the food as well.

There are many tour operators that offer Yangtze River cruise trip. Do choose a reputable one and book as early as possible. Make this one of the trips that you take in your lifetime!
