If you're planning to move there are a number of things you can do before moving day to make your moving day easier. Let's take a look at the most important ones.
The first thing is to get rid of all the items in your home that you don't really need; the ones that have been gathering dust over the years or that have simply outlived their purpose.
There's no reason to move things you don't need to your new home. And arranging your brand new surroundings is going to be much less complicated if you get rid of any unwanted things before your moving day.
If they're in good condition you can either have a garage sale to clear away unnecessary items or give these things to charity. Otherwise, just throw them out.
If you're packing yourself, make sure that the contents of the boxes will not move around. You can do this by stuffing packing material such as wadded up newspapers, or "peanuts" in any of the empty areas within the box between your possessions. If things can't move around it is much less likely that they will break.
Next, make sure to label each of the boxes with an appropriate description of what's inside. Note on the outside of the box what room it should be put in. It will be easier to unpack and arrange everything when your boxes are marked and put in the rooms where they belong. You might even want to make a list on your computer for each box, print it out, and include it.
How to Pack Your Kitchen
Here's an example of an efficient way to prepare your kitchen for a move and how to pack what's in it.
First, clean all of your appliances. Empty the refrigerator and the freezer and clean them out. Defrost your freezer if need be. Make sure both the freezer and the refrigerator are moisture free and unplugged before the movers arrive.
Empty all your cabinets and draws in the kitchen and pack everything in appropriately labeled boxes.
It's actually pretty simple.
What to Do With Jewelry and Pets
Here are some additional tips that a lot of people tend to overlook. Take all of your jewelry and any important documents with you personally instead of packing it in the moving van.
If you have any pets, why not leave them temporarily with a neighbor or a friend? This will decrease their stress level and yours too. At the least, put them in a cage so they don't accidentally run away while you're focusing on moving.
A good moving and storage company should provide you a list for you to itemize everything. This ensures that everything will make it to your new home. Then you'll have the peace of mind knowing that if anything is misplaced you will easily locate it.
When you hire a reputable, professional moving company you will be able to leave the stress and strain of moving in their hands instead carrying it on your shoulders.
And if you live in the area, take a look at
Kansas City moving companies
or
Santa Ana moving companies
to find a well known, well established, and highly respected moving company.
