Don't Be Discouraged By The Iffy Job Marketplace

Author : Paul Bowley

Over the years I've witnessed remarkable changes in the job search marketplace. But I've never seen anything like what's going on right now. This is an extraordinary time to be looking for a job.

Business and industry is about to explode with unique opportunities at all levels of employment from high school and college grads to senior executives . . . if you know how to find them. But

This is not for wimps!

You see, things have changed in the 21st Century job market. And since 9-11, Katrina and the economic meltdown things have changed a lot!

For example, because of the iffy job market, employers' expectations and demands have become a major challenge to serious job-searchers. Just take a look at what's in store for you:

Is your resume just a rehash of your previous work history? . . . it's out.

Not in total control of the interview? . . . you're dead in the water.

Like to dwell on your past accomplishments? . . . you just lost.

Can't stand up to tough objections and uncomfortable questions? . . . don't give up your day job.

Scared of the phone? . . . get ready for a long, long job search campaign.

Clueless about how to negotiate like a pro? . . . expect to leave thousands on the table untouched.

Can't show how you can make a BIG difference? . . . stay home.

Afraid to follow up with persistence? . . . you just gave your job away to someone who can.

So, do you think you can you live up to the requirements of today's savvy employers? You'll never survive in this fast-paced, sophisticated job marketplace if you can't . . . you'll never qualify for those exciting, high-paying opportunities that are on the horizon.

The point of all this is that you must be prepared. The days of old-fashioned "automated" job search methods don't make it in today's marketplace. Why? There are too few jobs and lot more discerning hiring managers.

Of course, having a comprehensive job campaign plan gives you a distinct advantage. You can anticipate all the predictable pitfalls that can occur. But more importantly, you have a step-by-step plan of action that gives you a track to run on with confidence.

I know it's easy to get discouraged. I talk to folks every day who wish they could just throw in the towel. But they are strongly motivated by the needs of their families. So they're looking for a better way.

To summarize . . . yes, it's tough to find a job these days. But they're out there even though the opportunities are hard to ferret out. With an intelligent approach and a lot of patience you can have a reasonable chance of success.
