Choosing Bedding For Your Daybed

Author : Tom H Brown

The daybed is one of those rare pieces of furniture that genuinely can be something of a chameleon, and this is largely thanks to the huge variety in the types of daybed bedding that's available today.

A daybed, when dressed to kill with flounces, ruffles, shams and skirts, will always steal the show. The different types of bedding mean you can chop and change to reflect very different looks, and also means your furniture piece is never going to go out of fashion. It can match your mood and your décor no matter how often you ring the changes.

Masculine and moody, boasting clean lines and blocks of strips or color, quickly gives way to those types more at home tucked up in granny's attic or maybe even in a teen's digs. Whether you sigh over silk or if you pine for patchwork, there's a style to delight your heart.

You may be new to the whole concept of daybeds; if so, here are a few things to look for when shopping for your first one:

What's it made of? They may be made of either metal or wood construction, and are available in a variety of styles ranging from old-fashioned bedsteads to white painted country to sleigh shapes.

Where will it live? Think about where it will be placed in the house, as well as the amount of use it will get. Will it be mostly decorative, for occasional use only, or are the kids going to be bouncing on it each day?

Do you need a trundle underneath, or would drawer space suit you better? This may not be such a big deciding factor with regard to types, but if you're getting a trundle, you'll need bedding for it.

The following will give some more ideas about the types of bedding that are out there:

Quilts - These types of can be more hardwearing than others due to the quilting process which reinforces the fabric. Even with all this extra ruggedness, quilts can still offer up a nice delicacy when that feminine look is desired.

Bedspreads - Offering a wide selection that caters to just about every taste, bedspreads are equally at home in both formal and informal settings. Most types of daybed bedding is sold in sets, so you get dust skirts and pillow shams to match the bedspread and give a coordinated look.

Kids - The types aimed towards the younger end of the market uses fun as its watchword. Cartoon characters, bold primary colors, wildlife scenes and animal prints all are featured prominently, as are crazy candy strips and chic color combos for today's sophisticated teen.
