The first thing you should find out is whether the teacher likes kids and has ever taught children before. This may seem like an obvious question, but there are actually a number of teachers that don't understand, or know how to teach children.

Ask about group and individual classes, and find out which they recommend for your child. Group classes are fun for children, whereas individual classes train your child's personal voice. The decision to sign up for private or group class will have to be based on your requirements as well as those of your child.
