What Can You Do If You Get Stuck In A Bad Snow Storm While Home?

Author : Lance Esondi

For most cities where people are used to having snow storms there are many precautionary measures made to make bad snow storms a bit more bearable. But other cities that aren't quite as used to snow storms can almost completely shut down after trees and ice rip down power lines and clutter the streets. For some they end up left without power and without a way out for well more than a week.

What would you do in this situation where the snow and ice prevents you from leaving home?

Regardless if you wanted to or not, you would just have to wait it out. But what degree of comfort would you currently have?

Preparing or being a survivalist is exactly what makes this type of a situation, snow storm or not, a bit more bearable for you and your family.

You don't have to have a private bunker or years and years of supplies. Make sure that at all times especially during the winter to have a couple weeks of food stocked up for the occasion. There is little need to get army rations or backpacking food. Just have the same types of food you already eat ready. Have a backup supply of water in case the pipes freeze up as well as a way to cook.

Another important consideration is to keep warm while you might not have available resources to make heat. Keeping extra blankets and possibly a way of producing heat without power or a portable version is a good idea.

While it's not likely to happen but once in a lifetime to most people, it's still a good idea to think about what you and your family would do during a disaster.
