It has become very popular amongst athletes in recent years mainly due to the role it plays in the synthesis of muscle tissue. HMB has been subjected to many studies that have reached some interesting conclusions. One study showed that supplementation with 3 grams of HMB per day increased participants' strength by a factor of three compared with placebo takers. The gains you make while you're on an on cycle can be dramatic and impressive. What used to take months to acquire in terms of muscle mass and strength is now gotten in a couple of short weeks instead of months and months of lack luster results. Plus, on top of the gains - you actually feel better and perform better during training, making working out an activity to look forward to instead of something to dread.
HMB is largely used by bodybuilders for hypertrophy gains. HMB is also noted to have other ergogenic effects, some being anti-catabolic, lipolytic and anabolic effects. HMB is also safe and even has health benefits like lowering our total cholesterol levels! In short, HMB supplementation makes one more muscular, burn fatter, and preserves more muscles by preventing muscle breakdown! Coenzyme Q10 also has the same function as it plays a major role in metabolism. Creatine, eleuthero, gamma oryzanol, ginseng (American and Asian), guaraná, HMB, iron, medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), phosphorus, pyruvate, and yohimbe are other supplements that boost endurance.
HMB is a metabolite of leucine, an amino acid. This kind of amino acid and its metabolites can slow down the degradation of protein. Studies indicate that adding HMB to the diet increases and strengthens muscle mass among the elderly people and those who are just starting their training. Regular intake of HMB, coupled with regular exercise will likely gain anywhere from 0.5 to 1 kilogram of additional muscle mass in 3 to 6 weeks only. Protein intake can then come to the picture. Mixing protein powders in different kinds of beverages could easily increase the total amount of protein one can take in a day. This can increase lean mass due to protein nitrogen balance.
You should also be wary of hormonal supplements. If you are eating a balanced diet and getting adequate vitamins and nutrients, you are unlikely to need hormone supplementation. In fact, taking hormonal supplements can cause an imbalance in your body, resulting in poor utilization of nutrients. Clearly there is significant scientific backing for claims that HMB can speed up muscle growth, strength, endurance and fat loss. There are no known side effects when taken properly in amounts ranging from 3-5 grams each day. It should be taken before training or at bed time for best results.
However, there has been news circulating that creatine cause several side effects on one’s body. One of the side effects being linked to creatine is related to kidney problems. Some people pointed out that long-term use of creatine might cause kidney stones to some users. But, solid evidence against creatine with regard to this ailment has not been provided.
