How To Play The Saxophone

Author : Pamelina Siow

Have you ever wanted to play one musical instrument but just can't decide on which one to play? To help you with the decision, let me tell you that saxophone is a great choice.

Saxophone has been around for a very long time, and it doesn't fail to entertain people with its unique sound. As a woodwind instrument, you have to rely on the air you blow in order to produce long and beautiful music.

Before anything else, you have to choose what kind of saxophone you would want to play. For a beginner, it would be best to get an E-flat saxophone. It is smaller and more convenient to carry. After finally deciding on the type of saxophone, it's now time to get your own. You have the option to rent or to buy one. If you plan to use it all your life, it's better to buy a new one.

After buying the saxophone of your choice, it's time to try blowing into it. The correct manner of blowing is with your lips curled inward and with half of the mouthpiece of the flute inside your mouth.

There should be no openings left that will ruin the flow of air to the saxophone. Once you've finished practicing with the blows, you can try out the notes by pressing the reeds. You could do this using a book or other references. You can also receive instructions by buying CDs, DVDs or other media formats.

Studying the instrument by yourself can prove a little difficult, you won't have anybody to ask if you encounter difficulties. This is why hiring someone to teach you is probably the best choice.

You can have a Singapore saxophone instructor who is only a high school student but with lots of practical experience in playing. Or if you prefer, you can have a professional saxophone teacher who is educated with the best known techniques in the industry. If you are working on a budget, then the former is the better alternative for you. Professional fees are often on the high side.

Although this isn't done by many sax players, it is equally important to read music. Listen to great players so you can have someone to look up to.

Having an ear for music, along with the ability to read music can make you into a future professional. Familiarizing yourself with a few music theories can also help your advancement in playing.

The secret on how to learn the saxophone is by religious practicing. Stick to a routine. Also, if at first you only play for about 30 minutes, add a few more minutes every week or so.

Your body will begin to adapt to the longer hours and will be able to easily handle longer sessions. Every detail is important if you want to become a great saxophone player.

The intonation, accuracy, and your unique style should be taken into consideration. A player's skill in expressing himself, specifically his emotions, through music is definitely a plus factor for him. Every professional player does that.

If you don't get the drift with your early tries at playing, remain hopeful. It will only be a matter of time before you are playing from music sheets or with your beloved Singapore sax player.
