Lately I have started to pay specific attention to commercials for Insurance Companies. It is interesting to watch the approach they take when trying to sell insurance in our current economic climate. Mostly, insurance companies like to project a feeling of security, however this angle has been exhausted and a new focus is on customer service to set one company apart from the other.
I have noticed that many insurance companies not only market their services, but they also spend a lot of time marketing and promoting their website URL during TV ads and other promotional platforms. Geico has even included a call-to-action in a version of one of their commercials that tells the viewer to log on and get a free quote. To further their famously customer service oriented reputation, Geico has taken to mobile-marketing by releasing an iPhone App promising to help the customer have easier access to their account right from their phone.
If you log on to Geico.com, you’ll see an incredibly optimized website and a banner advertising the download of their new application. This new app aims to deliver the same level of customer service and improved access for the customer at times when a customer needs Geico’s services. The name of the app is called the Geico glove box. Just like in real life, you don’t have to be a customer to experience the app and its benefits. I do not currently have a Geico policy, but I have experienced their customer service by being involved in an accident with one of their customers. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised how great their service was.
Although Geico has a great website with this new app you can pay your bill, view a copy of your insurance cards, call for road side service, contact customer service, rent a car or call a taxi, and watch some videos starring the famous Geico Gecko, all from your iPhone. There is even an accident helper that helps you organize photos of the accident!
This use of new technology is very smart on Geico’s part. Not only is this a great tool and a great way to market to its customers, but it makes insurance transactions a lot easier and more efficiently. It also is just plain cool and promotes Geico as cutting edge. Who would have thought five years ago that iPhone apps were going to be a new way to drive customers to a business? IPhone is just one platform; with the continued release of new iPhone competitors like the Google Nexus and Motorola Droid specific customer-centric applications are sure to make their way to your mobile screen.
