Crucial Steps For Building Portable Chicken Coops Successfully

Author : Joshua Hardingur

Lots of people who have pondered raising a few hens in their backyard choose not to since they imagine it is too much work building a chicken coop. Or they think there is not a sufficient amount of space in their backyard to grow them effectively. However, using a chicken ark will normally permit you to successfully raise hens in a tiny backyard with no trouble. In fact, hens can even be grown in a diminutive garage. You can successfully raise many fresh eggs in a tiny 25 square foot area in your garage by piling several cages on top of each other. Planning ahead and doing things the right way will make it possible to successfully raise fresh organic eggs in an extremely tiny area.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is "what number of eggs do I wish to be collecting every day?" If you wish to successfully raise enough hens to supply you with 4 eggs every day, or 1 dozen eggs every three days, you will likely require roughly 5 hens. This amount will certainly be supported in a small chicken ark. High-quality commercially grown white leghorns will lay an egg nearly every day if they are fed well and receive adequate light.

Many backyard growers will end up with unproductive chickens that produce few eggs since the owners do not understand the magnitude of providing their birds a nutritious and high quality feed. Pullets demand a lot of protein, calcium, grit, and other nutrients for top physical health and production so it's important to supply it to them. A chicken ark will permit your flock to acquire some of their own meals, but a superior feed should ideally complement their diet if you expect them to lay eggs consistently.

8 hens is roughly the greatest amount you will want to raise in one single movable ark. If you expect to successfully grow more birds it will be necessary to manufacture more than a single movable ark. Ordinarily, at least 2.5 to 3.0 square feet of space is required for every individual hen. A 4-foot by 6-foot movable ark will be able to house about 8 birds. However, if you are able to offer more space for each individual hen you will minimize the possibility of cannibalism. If chickens are overly crowded they will often peck each other even to the point of death.

There are three main reasons for building a chicken ark. First, they are painless and low-cost to build. Second, your flock can munch on plants and bugs that can lower your feed expenses and help keep your chickens happier and healthier. And third, they can be grown in limited areas, making it achievable for almost anybody to successfully raise their own fresh organic eggs.

It's actually not excessively demanding to manufacture a little ark. The easiest arks are constructed as "A" frames. They will be triangular in shape. The base will be approximately 4 feet wide by 6 feet long, but can be built larger or smaller as appropriate for your needs. Nevertheless, as a replacement for building a wood base, the soil itself will be the flooring. A pair of 6-foot 2x4s and a couple of 4-foot 2x4s fastened to each other will be the base.

The "A" frame will be fixed firmly to the base and framed with two-by-twos or two-by-fours. The "A" frame section will have wire fastened to its frame to let fresh air and daylight into the portable chicken ark, but can have the upper segment covered in plywood to give the flock shade and protection from direct sunshine. You can easily amend this plan by changing its dimensions, making it in a square shape instead of triangular-shaped, or making further modifications as desired.

Since the earth itself is the floor, your poultry can dine on whatever plant and bug life resides within their home. Pecking for some of their own food can keep them healthier. As soon as one area has been totally picked clean of all wild food by your flock you can just move your movable ark to a fresh area with more luscious plant growth. But bear in mind, for top egg production give them a healthy feed as a supplement to their wild diet.
