Just about everyone needs patio furniture at some point in their lives. Teak outdoor furniture is one of the best alternatives due to the strength and ease of maintenance. For instance, a patio bench looks amazing which needs minimum care. If you prefer to search for patio swings, teak is a great alternative here, too. Outdoor swings can add an element of relaxation to your porch and garden swings turn a yard into something extra special.
Teak is a Time Saver
Number of people simply don't have the time presently to maintain their outdoor furniture, although it is as simple as a teak bench. Teak outdoor furniture is a good choice for patio furniture if you tend to be busy. It is maybe the simplest of woods, excluding cedar, to care for. Purchasing the right patio furniture is vital to avoiding long hours of polishing, moving the furniture every time it rains and looking for storage space for it during the winter months.
With teak, you don't have to worry about this at all. In fact, it is the ideal wood to leave outdoors because it turns a beautiful weathered silver after several seasons out in the weather . Dissimilar to many woods, teak is resistant to water and while it does age, it won't wear away because of moisture.
This wood is also very hard and fine grained which makes it great looking wood, but also resistant to pests that would normally ruin wooden furniture, particularly garden swings or benches that are in direct contact with the earth. Teak outdoor swings, however, like cedar, will remain insect free and appear excellent year round. As compared to other types of woods, patio swings are stronger and durable as they are not treated regularly as in case of other wood. Keep in mind that teak, though when weathered and silvered, is just as strong as when it is not old.
Looking After Teak Outdoor Furniture
Generally people don't like the silver finish that occurs on the teak wood furniture when it is out in sun, rain or wind, though it needs no storage in winter too. It does age bit-by-bit, but it will definitely get older. You can stop this, however. If you like to keep the wood looking good and new, you can apply a particular treatment to the wood. This does require some maintenance, since you'll need to apply this three to four times a year in order to maintain that honey gold color of new teak. Make sure you think early on if you want to let the wood grow old normally or keep it up to the new standard, as it is practically not possible to get that normal finish back once the wood has worn out.
Regardless of the finish you desire, you'll want to apply a wood oil from time to time to make sure the patio furniture doesn't dry out and crack, which can happen as the oils leach out of the wood. This arises over time, so you must only have to apply the oil once a year, perhaps twice if you live in a very dry climate.
Don't try to paint your teak patio furniture. The natural oils in the wood will make it so the paint doesn't adhere properly and it will shed very rapidly. Instead, stick to the natural finish that is provided by the wood.
Patio furniture that doesn't get worn by bugs, withered by the climate or decompose is a big commodity. You may need to pay a high rice for your teak wood furniture, but it is worth investing as this wood truly lasts longer. You can even select this tropical hardwood to be fixed in your lawn swings to keep decomposition away. Most of the outdoor swings are worn out easily due to termites and insects in your garden soil, however, teal patio swings are durable and withstand all the ill-effect with no treatment too.
Teak outdoor furniture is a great alternative to other types of wooden or even plastic furniture. At OutdoorFurnitureETC.com, we offer the finest in outdoor items, including benches, chairs and outdoor swings.
