Credit Repair Tips And Tricks

Author : Devora Witts

Having credit issues can be extremely tiresome and very frustrating, to say the least. Most of the times, it is difficult to identify the financial mistakes you make and which have led to you having a bad credit score and history. And even if you do identify them, there is no guarantee you will not make them again if you do not know better. Most resort to credit repair agencies and counseling, which is a great solution but may turn out to be pricy. What is the point in having someone fix your credit if you will have to get deeper in debt to do so?

Most people do not know that credit fixing is no science. There is nothing a credit repair agency will do that you cannot do yourself with some time and patience. Now, if what you want is not to make an effort, and you can pay to have someone do that effort in your place, then go for it! But if it is not your case (and I am guessing it is not, otherwise you would not be reading this article), then read on to find an easy guide to do-it-yourself credit repair.

Do-It-Yourself Tip #1: New Financial Life Implies New Lifestyle

I know this might not be of your liking, but in order to achieve a successful credit repair, you must change your bad financial habits. Otherwise, you will just fix your financial standing momentarily. We are not looking for band aids here, but for fully-fledged surgery.

My best piece of advice for you would be to research online for a guide to budgeting and a guide to saving (though one thing invariably leads to the other), I have written some of them myself. Before you even attempt to start repairing your credit, bear in mind that this lifestyle change cannot last months, or a couple of years, it is a lifetime commitment. It sounds horrible, but once you get used to it, it is nowhere near as terrible as it sounds. No pain, no gain, right?

Do-It-Yourself Tip #2: Check Out Your Report And Correct It

You should always have an updated copy of your credit report handy. Knowing your credit score by heart is not only not enough but also useless. By periodically checking your credit report, you can have a more detailed knowledge of what is going on in your financial life and, most importantly, what is evidently failing. What I recommend all my customers is to check their credit files for errors once every six months. Sometimes you will find inaccuracies which might be unfairly bringing your credit score down. These inaccuracies can and must be corrected.

Take into account that negative but accurate inputs cannot be removed. Do not believe anyone claiming they can make it happen, because they are lying. Scam alert!

Do-It-Yourself Tip #3: Consider Applying For A Consolidation Loan

If you are deep in debt and simply cannot pay your debt back, then it will be wise of you to apply for a consolidation loan as soon as possible. Once you have the money on your hands, pay back your debts and begin repaying the consolidation loan. Request the longest term possible so as to have more affordable monthly payments.

Do-It-Yourself Tip #4: Repay Bills And Loans In A Timely Manner

Once your major debt is gone, begin repaying your bills and the monthly installments on the loan as timely as possible. This will begin to reflect on your credit report soon, and your credit score will rise consequently.
