The high school senior's dream is to just graduate and go to college. For many youth, starting college is their ticket out of mom and dad's shelter. College, the educational getaway for youth , is a place to go for sororities, parties, and new friends. The perfect opportunity to stay out all night and not have to worry about your parents catching you coming in after curfew, it is the long awaited chance for independence. The reality is there are more than recent high school graduates pursuing a college degree.
There are mothers that have been out of high school for many years and returning to or just beginning college. They unfortunately do not have the "luxury" of sorority parties, or after class study groups. These students have gained independence, however; they still have to report in. They report to their children and their households. Rushing home after a three hour class to fix lunch or dinner, bath the kids, straighten the house and try to rearrange next months bills because they still have not bought the study guide required for algebra. These students struggle with financial situations allowing them at times to only be able to afford one class per semester, stretching out the usual four year degree to 6, 8, and even 10 years.
Obama has come to the rescue for many mothers that are pursuing higher education by making scholarships available for mothers returning to college or just beginning the journey of higher education. These "mom" available scholarships will ease the burden for many mothers struggling to make a better life for their families while giving more time for study instead of worrying how to get the extra money for next semester classes.
