Basic Drill Bit Sets

Author : Groshan Fabiola

Once you have a power drill to do some work around the house all you need to make all your dream projects come true is a good set of drill bits. There are many different types of drill bit sets though, and while they all have their purpose they are not all good for your work around the house. There are power drills that can bore a hole into almost any material within the home, but they will require different bits for these different jobs you may be doing. With the right set of drill bits, however, you will be prepared for any challenge you may face.

A set of wood drill bits for basic home needs is not too expensive and you may be able to drill glass with one of these drill bit sets, but you will not be able to bore into metal or plastic with any of these bits. For that you would need special plastic drill bits and metal drill bits that are specifically intended for those materials. High quality sets of wood drill bits include durable steel bits ranging in size from eight millimeters to 32 millimeters.

If you are going to be drilling into glass or stained glass, then you will need to look for drill bit sets with diamond bits. These drill bits have diamond that is either bonded or sintered onto the drill tip, which helps to easily drill holes into materials like glass. There are special diamond drill bits that can also bore holes into porcelain tiles. These can come in handy for many home projects that you may encounter.

The basic set of wood drill bits should serve for most purposes in the home, but if you plan on drilling into other materials such as glass, plastic, metal or composite you will need more specialized tools.
