Laser Bleaching Treatment: A True Gift

Author : Alice Campbell

Cosmetic laser dentistry is a group of procedures that use sophisticated technology to change the color and appearance of the teeth. Laser treatment can be used to rectify a number of dental and mouth flaws like gum disease treatment, decay removal, oral surgery, strengthening tooth restoration, and laser bleaching for teeth whitening. Laser treatment can be used for both cosmetic dentistry and general dentistry treatments; hence one can say that it is immensely versatile.

Laser cosmetic treatment is also used for the removal of the wisdom teeth, root canal treatment, periodontal therapy, removing defective veneers, gum restoration, hardening of dental material, and laser IPR, that is interproximal reduction between teeth. Different type and intensity of laser light is use for each of these different treatments.

Laser teeth whitening procedure also known as laser bleaching, is a new cosmetic dentistry procedure. A translucent bleaching peroxide gel is applied on the teeth and laser argon light is used to activate the crystals in the gel. This laser bleaching gel in turn penetrates through the enamel making the teeth brighter. But if the gel is swallowed or if it seeps into the gum it might be dangerous.

Among all the cosmetic dentistry processes, laser bleaching are the most preferred ones. It can remove and reduce stain in no time and can even make the teeth eight times brighter. This depends on the number of sittings one take with the dentist. Laser bleaching processes are preferred as it is painless, unlike the conventional dentistry procedures that use dental drill. Dental drill, as the name suggests, uses vibrations and heat on the teeth that is unpleasant and stressful.

Cosmetic dentistry using laser bleaching on the contrary uses beams of concentrated laser light. The hard and soft tissues in the oral cavity are effectively dispelled and shaped by the laser beam carrying energy. The energy particles also sterilize the operated area and activate the blood vessels.

There are other useful advantages of cosmetic dentistry with laser bleaching over traditional processes. The dental laser can reduce or completely eliminate the use of anesthetics. This obviously is healthy for the gums as well as for the teeth. The entire traditional process causes gum swelling and pain, as a result of which eating all kind of food and even talking becomes painful. The postoperative pain is reduced in laser bleaching and the prophylactic period is also less.

One of the greatest advantages of this treatment is that it allows the dentist to only remove the hard and soft tissues that are affected and leaves the unaffected portions as they are. As a result of this the natural strength of the teeth is restored, unlike the traditional drill process.

Cosmetic dentistry is expensive and the costs differ with the use of different types of lasers and different treatment modalities. The number of sittings and the place also determine the final cost. In some countries the procedures are cheaper and people from all around the world frequently travel to those countries simply for carrying out dental treatments.
