How To Change A Tyre

First off you will need a couple of tools:
• A jack
• An axle stand
• A wheel brace
• Rubber wheel chocks
For simplicity sake we will break the procedure down into steps
Step one: Find a flat piece of ground to jack your car up on, NEVER attempt to change a tyre on an uneven surface!
Step two: Ensure your handbrake is up and that your car is in gear, you don’t want it moving around on the jack.
Step three: Before doing anything else you need to secure the wheel diagonally opposite to the one you are changing, so if you are changing the back passenger side wheel you will need to secure the right front driver’s side wheel. The best way to do this is to invest in a pair of proper rubber wheel chocks; this will keep your car steady so that you can be on your way as quickly as possible.
Step four: Put the jack into the correct position and take some of the cars weight, but don’t lift it off the ground! Ensure that the jack is properly secured. (Consult your owners guide to see where the best jacking points on your car are.)
Step five: Keep the wheel on the ground to allow you to loosen the wheel nuts with less hassle, if the wheel was in the air the wheel would, more than likely, just keep spinning as you try and loosen the nuts. Then undo the nuts slightly with your wheel brace and once you have done that lift the car of ground until the tyre you want to change is in the air.
Step six: Now you can remove the wheel nuts completely and remove the tyre from the vehicle. For some added precaution you could place the wheel under the car should it come off the jack. It is very important to keep track of all the nuts that you take off.
Step seven: Now fit your spare tyre and be sure to align the bolt holes on the wheel to the holes on the car wheel hub and put the wheel nuts back into place. Then tighten each bolt as much as you can. Depending on how many bolts you have consult your users guide to see in which order you should fasten them.
Step eight: Lower your car back onto the ground and tighten the wheel nuts completely.
You should be very careful when changing a tyre to not cause any damage to your vehicle, but check with your cheap car insurance provider to see what the effects would be on your car insurance policy.
