Window Dressing Trends For 2008

“Whereas fashion often takes its inspiration from the past,” says Sarah, “the key looks for 2008 and beyond are visionary, ultra modern and futuristic. If you love pale colours and soft neutrals, look away now as the patterns and colours that we’re going to see coming through are bold, vibrant and intricate with lots of metallic and graphic geometric designs. Shades of gothic purple, dark greys and greens, teal, plum and burgundy dominate, along with bursts of punchy, luminous accent colours like canary yellow, orange and neon pink!
“Structure is replacing texture, reflecting designs seen in nature, not so much flowers as simple line drawings of leaves that give quite a “jungly” feel. We’re also going to see a lot of bugs and birds on our walls, floors and furnishings! Black and white can stay but only if it gives house room to unexpected combinations of colour such as fresh green and yellow.
“If you don’t want to go overboard with any of these trends and let’s face it, there’s probably not many of us who could easily accommodate too much shocking pink or indeed afford to start from scratch every time a new fashion comes along, then why not give a nod to the look with your window dressing?”
Putting on the glitz
Shine, shimmer and sparkle. There’s lots of chrome, mirrors and crystal and even black is shiny with fabrics veering towards plastic and pvc. But this is not a minimalist look as textures blend to add warmth and comfort.

Groovy graphics
Simple, bold repeated patterns take over from last year’s more baroque feel to give a modern look. Sliding panels are a great solution for big windows, giving both privacy and control of the light. Panels featured are Bette Green from Hillarys.
Zest appeal
A zesty combination of orange and yellow should be an uplifting experience in the kitchen or if you prefer use it as strong accent colour in this black and white scheme.
