Hemorrhoids are not easy things to deal with. They are quite painful, make it uncomfortable to sit down and on top of this, no one really wants to talk about them. Yet, this is a serious condition that needs to be treated if is persists. Learning what the symptoms are can help you to determine what to do about your condition.

There are basically two types of hemorrhoids. They are either internal or external. In those that are external, they will be located on the anal verge or the very end of the canal. Here, they are painful. Symptoms are usually itching, burning, swelling and just irritation. For those that are internal hemorrhoids, these will happen inside the rectum. Because there are no pain receptor nerves located here, they do not usually hurt. In most cases, individuals do not even know that they have them. But, in some cases, they will bleed if they do become irritated enough.

Now, if these conditions are not treated, they can lead to a more serious condition that is known as prolapsed hemorrhoids in which the internal hemorrhoids are so swollen that they are actually pushed out of the body. This can cause the hemorrhoid to lose its blood flow, which can be dangerous to the entire area.

Treatment Options

For those that are suffering from hemorrhoids, there is nothing more painful and uncomfortable to have to tell a doctor. The first course of action may be to seek out temporary relief products which can be purchased over the counter. These products are usually things like a sits bath, topical creams, and even suppositories. If caught in the early stages, these treatments can relieve the pain and discomfort and allow for the body to heal. Yet, this often is not enough.

When these treatments do not help an individual, it is time to seek out the help of a doctor. The treatment here will be done based on what the doctor feels is best for the current condition of the individual. It may include electrotherapy, dilation which is the stretching of the muscles in the area, rubber band ligation, scleotherapy which is injection therapy and even cryosurgery in which the effected area is frozen and removed.

Because of their seriousness and their pain, anyone that thinks that they may be affected by this condition should seek out the help of a doctor. It is the fastest way to get relief from this condition.
