This second part of our article will continue to review what we think to be the most important events in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in this month. Stay tuned to learn new and exciting things about this amazing town.

8. Saint Sebastian – Patron Saint Of The City Of Rio De Janeiro – this amazing event will blend the long Portuguese traditions with ancient folklore as well as original Roman Catholic rituals and Afro-Brazilian rites. The event will feature ceremonies in churches plus the streets will feature plenty of red coloring - the votive shade of the city’s patron saint;

9. Sao Sebastian Race – also known as a corrida de São Sebastião is a traditional 10km race which will celebrate Rio’s patron saint. The first five women and men to cross the finishing line are rewarded with a trophy or prizes. The race starts at Aterro do Flamengo, between Cuautémoque square and Tucumã road;

10. The Cranberries – the famous band will be performing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on January 28th (Thursday) at 9:30 PM;

11. Tom Jobim Day - By Law nr. 4.543 published on July 10, on the birth date of Maestro Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, the Tom Jobim’s Day is celebrated in honor of Bossa Nova and all its participants, encouragers and disseminators. The event will be held on January 25th, 2010;

12. Carnival Rehearsals – every Friday at the Odisséia theatre, in the quarter of Lapa at 11 PM. On January 16th at 10 AM, at the square in Rua General Glicério street - in the neighborhood of Laranjeiras, the Giants of the Lire event will be held. On the last day of January at 5 PM in Circo Voador there will be held a traditional Children’s Ball by Gigantes da Lira; Congeniality is Almost Love - Rehearsals: January 15 and 22,and the last rehearsal on January 29 (final decision on the samba song + Carnival Ball), always at 09:00 p.m., at Parada da Lapa;

13. 14th Year Bradesco Insurance & Private Pension Christmas Tree - The Bradesco Seguros e Previdência Christmas Tree, which is in fact the largest floating Christmas tree (according to the famous Guinness Book of Records), which decorates the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon since 1996, has now reached its 14th consecutive edition. The tree measures 85 meters which is the equivalent of a 28-storey building. The theme of this edition is “The Bradesco Seguros e Previdência Christmas Tree: the union of our greatest wishes", with Abel Gomes as set designer. As is the tradition, the Christmas Tree will light up for the last time this year on Epiphany, 6 January;

14. Nativity Statues At Julieta De Serpa Arts And Culture House – gathers an astonishing numbers of 3000 parts which are distributed along 50 square meters. The Holy Family is depicted on a typical Naples ambiance, among a vegetable, fish and fruit market, homes in celebration and gypsies. Some of the parts can move and most are originated from France and Italy, of the 17th and 19th centuries. The main characters were made in terracotta. Another interesting mock-up with 450 parts is the Snow City which symbolizes a village on the snow covered mountains. There is also a musical number performed from Tuesdays to Fridays, at 04:00 PM.
