Diabetes is one problem that can occur to anyone irrespcetive of their age or sex. there are some factors that can put you at a bigger likelihood of developing the issue. Let us know these risk factors and how they can make a contribution to the development of diabetes.

One of the most prominent risk factors for type 2 diabetes is obesity. If you are obese then you are at a greater risk of developing diabetes. This is as fat interferes with the production of insulin in the body.Increased weight increases the insulin resistance and therefore walks the sugar levels in the body. So , it becomes critical that you take steps to keep your weight to an optimal level. Eat a controlled diet and indulge in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity everyday.

If you're leading a sedentary approach to life ; you are at higher chance of diabetes. If you are not physically active ; your sugar levels of the blood go on a hike. If you are active then the case is opposite. Also it's been observed that the muscle cells are more receptive to insulin in comparison to the fat cells. Exercise helps to decrease the insulin resistance of the body. This thereby helps to regulate the sugar levels of the blood and hence bring it to a stabilised level. A sedentary lifestyle is also a major factor for the rising trend of obesity. Obesity further increases the chances of diabetes manifolds.

If you're following bad eating habits then you're more suscetible to diabetes than those who eat healthy. Eating too much of sugar will obviously raise your blood sugar levels. Apart from sugar, carbs too boost your blood sugar levels. They get digested easily and spike up the sugar levels. You have got to avoid eating junk foods that are stuffed with simple carbohydrates and sugar. Instead, you should try and include more of fiber in your diet.

For some unlucky chaps, diabetes comes not due to any fault of their own but as it is in their genes. If the people or anyone else in family is diabetic, the danger of your becoming diabetic rises expo-nentially. African Americans, Hispanics and the Aboriginal folk of Americas are known to have a good rate of type 2 diabetes due to inherited factors.

There are a few other things as well that increase the chances of diabetes. Some of these factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, history of gestational diabetes, age and such like. While a couple of these risk factors like family history and genetics are certain, there are others that you have control over like your diet and weight. It is in your own interest to control the risk factors you can and avoid the occurrence of diabetes in the first place. After all, prevention is better than cure.
