Hybrid Cars: What's Great About Them and What's Not

Are you curious why increasingly more people are choosing to buy hybrid cars instead of conventional ones despite the fact that hybrids are so much pricier? What is the factor behind the popularity of hybrid cars?

The answer – it's literally worth the cost to purchase a hybrid. With a hybrid car, you can cut fuel consumption in half in comparison to their conventional car owning peers. This is because hybrids actually use two engines. The first engine is still an internal combustion engine but the second engine is actually made up of an electric motor with its own batteries. This combination of engines is what makes the car a "hybrid". By combining these two to power your car, it is more quiet, it's cleaner andworks more efficiently than cars with just a combustion type engine. These are the main advantages of hybrid cars.

Another great thing about hybrid ownership are the new tax incentives being given to hybrid car users and buyers. In some states, you are given tax rebates if you drive a hybrid car. This reason alone is a big push for many hybrid car ownership.

One more plus point: As it is not using fuel, it causes less pollution. Quite a number of environmentalists swear by hybrid cars because it has lower pollution rate.

To be sure, not everything about owning a hybrid car is positive. For instance, one of the brightest point about the hybrid, it's electrical motor, can also be considered one of its biggest flaws. When it stops working properly, it's considerably more expensive to service or replace. There is also a higher risk for electric shock facing any first responder attempting to free you from a crash, which is attributable to the large amount of voltage associated with an electric engine.

Another issue with hybrid ownership is the higher than average price tag when compared to similar cars in its class. Still, the hybrid car still wins out by allowing consumers to save money in a long term basis. Calculate how much gasoline each will guzzle over the course of its life and tack this cost onto the ticket price. You will probably see that the hybrid become comparable in cost if not more of a deal using this calculation.
