Managing the waste is the major issue today as it possess a serious threat to the environment. Environment friendly degeneration of the waste is the need of the hour and if we are not successful in it the nature will itself take severe steps to minimize the waste which could be detrimental for our environment. Recycling the waste is a major step in protecting our environment and saving the ecosystem.

Construction industry generates huge amount of waste from the entire life cycle of a new construction site as well as from renovations projects, operation, and demolition. Earlier all this waste was dumped straight into the landfill but today even the construction waste should be recycled and reused. Project team pursuing green building certificate is most motivated in implementing reuse and recycling of the materials.

The reuse and recycling of the construction waste materials relatively cut huge volumes of waste that goes to the landfill that adds burden and eventually requires additional landfill areas.

The reuse and recycling of the building material is necessary to reduce the adverse effect of building construction on the environment. When an older building is demolished to give way for the new development instead of just dumping the waste all the functional and serviceable materials can be utilized for the new project and other materials can be recycled.

Non-structural windows, trims, doors, furniture, fixtures, flooring, cabinets, etc if removed properly can be used again. This helps in reducing the demand of new resources for the new building. The production of new materials and products is tough on our environment as it adds up vast emission of greenhouse gases and consumption of natural resources.

Also the reuse and recycling process helps the project owner to save money. The team is only required to search for quality source which can be done during the planning stage.

Construction industry is the source of enormous amount of waste, but the construction waste can be considerably minimized by applying reuse and recycling process. Only thing required is the construction industry should be more proactive and serious about the waste management.
